The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has refuted the allegation made by the primary opposition party that the court proceedings involving former President Abdulla Yameen are being influenced.
According to the PGO’s statement, they conducted a meeting with high-ranking members of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) to brief them on Yameen’s legal case. The PGO conveyed its desire for a speedy resolution to Yameen’s appeal, but mentioned that the process was being protracted due to the failure of Yameen’s defense to submit the necessary documents.
Furthermore, the PGO denied the opposition’s claim that it had stated during the meeting that the case was being influenced. The PGO stated that they would provide complete assistance in ensuring a prompt verdict. The PGO also informed the opposition members during the meeting that complaints concerning Yameen’s detention conditions should be addressed by the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS).
