The Pakistani national wanted for the murder of a waiter at a restaurant in suburban Hulhumale’ on Saturday, has been arrested after an hours-long manhunt from the beach area of Hulhumale’ Phase II.
Maldives Police Service identified Muhammad Abid, 26, a Pakistani national who worked as a chef at the restaurant, as the suspect and initiated a manhunt to arrest the suspect.
Abid fled the scene after attacking his colleague, prompting the police to release his picture. Police warned he was dangerous, and urged the public not to approach him and call 119 instead.
A police spokesperson said Abid was arrested from the beach area of the newly populated Hulhumale’ Phase II in the early hours of Sunday.
The homicide was prompted by a disagreement inside the restaurant’s kitchen, as the staff prepared meals for iftar. A Bangladeshi male, was found stabbed inside Khanji, a popular restaurant in Hulhumale’ where he worked as a waiter, on Saturday evening. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hulhumale’ Hospital.
