The Maldives Police Service has announced that the investigation into the May 6 terror attack on former President Mohamed Nasheed is progressing well and that all of the main suspects involved in the plot have been apprehended.
In a press conference held today, Superintendent of Police Hassan Shifau of the Criminal Investigation Command stated that police have collected information on more than 150 individuals, and search operations have been conducted in 25 different locations based on information received from the public and police investigations.
Police have apprehended 14 persons in connection with the bomb blast, according to Shifau. He further stated that the investigation is aimed at finding persons who actively participated in the attack, planned, and carried out the crime, as well as financially supported the terror attack.
Superintendent Shifau also stated that over 200 CCTV footages obtained from the public and police investigations are being evaluated, and that the CCTV videotape is contributing vital information and advancements to the investigation.
He also stated that international partners were assisting in the forensic analysis, as the police forensic agency was conducting tests on evidence seized from the crime scene and other locations associated with the blast.
