Maldives Police Service has released the names of the alleged terror suspects in connection with the assassination attempt on Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
At a press conference today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz announced that Mujaaz Ahmed, 21, of MA. Feyruge/Male’ City, and Thahumeen Ahmed, 32, of Folheymaa/GA. Kondey, had been arrested in connection with the explosion that critically injured Speaker Nasheed and his bodyguards.
According to police, one of the suspects was apprehended in a house near Alikilegefaanu Magu in Male’ City during a special operation, while the other suspect was arrested near Rabarugas Magu in Hulhumale’.
Both men had previous criminal records and had been classified as extremists, according to police.
