President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has formed a committee to investigate the lack of intelligence leading up to the May 6 terrorist attack on Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
The Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) had previously stated that they had no prior knowledge of the attack.
According to Mabrook Azeez, the President’s Office Spokesperson, the committee will consist of representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office and the President’s Office.
He also stated that the committee has begun its investigation and that all findings will be shared with President Solih.
This follows the recent revelation by Ilyas Labeeb, MP for the Hulhudhoo constituency, that he had exchanged details about an attack on Speaker Nasheed with Defense Minister Mariya Didi.
