In a speech delivered during the official opening of the People’s National Congress (PNC) office, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure a supermajority in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
As the ruling party gearing up for next year’s elections, President Muizzu, who also serves as the PNC’s President, emphasized the collaborative effort with the sister party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The President stated that by working together and campaigning extensively across the nation, the PNC and PPM aim to achieve a significant victory.
“God willing, the result of that will be all of us, the PPM-PNC, together succeeding and reaching a supermajority of Parliament with a big result in the upcoming election in the country,” President Muizzu announced during the ceremony.
Acknowledging the challenges ahead, President Muizzu framed obstacles as sources of encouragement for progress. He urged activists from both parties to engage with voters, emphasizing their collective commitment to working for the betterment and progress of the people.
The PNC’s new office, situated on the seventh floor of the Sea Trac building, marks a significant development for the party. Previously, the PNC office operated alongside coalition ally PPM in Henveiru Hurafa, but after a rift between President Muizz and former President Abdulla Yameen, the coalition’s previous leader, the PNC temporarily operated from a meeting hall in the Carnival.
President Muizzu highlighted the importance of the spacious new office, stating that it would enhance the party’s functionality. He noted that this marks the PNC’s active role as a party for the first time.
Following the office inauguration, the joint senate of PPM-PNC held a meeting and decided to appoint President Muizzu as the leader of both parties. This decision follows the departure of former President Yameen, who is in the process of forming a new party after the emergence of differences within the coalition.
