President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has refused to admit that the government has failed to manage COVID-19 pandemic in the Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference held last night by the President’s Office, President Solih said that he does not believe that the government had failed in managing the pandemic and that considerable amount of works are being done to control the spread.
He did admit that the easements approved by the government towards the local council elections was a major reason for the uncontrolled spread of the virus within the past 30 days but he does not want to play the blame game at this time.
The country is currently bracing one of the worst waves of COVID-19 infections with almost 289 patients receiving hospitalized care throughout the country. The country has recorded 144 deaths with 71 of these deaths declared this month.
Public has been critical of the government of mismanaging the pandemic which has been blighted by several corruption scandals.
