President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have embarked on an official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, as well as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and a reception with heads of state.
The President’s Office announced that the President and First Lady will be present at the coronation ceremony scheduled for May 6, at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony is expected to have over 2,000 guests in attendance. King Charles III ascended the throne after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September last year.
In addition to attending the coronation, President Solih and First Lady Fazna will also be participating in the CHOGM and will be present at a reception with heads of state. The visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic ties between the Maldives and the UK and offer an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest.
The Maldives and the UK share a long-standing relationship that has expanded over the years, with the UK being a vital partner in the development of the Maldives. The visit by President Solih and First Lady Fazna to attend the coronation ceremony and CHOGM is a testament to the friendly relations between the two nations.
