During a meeting with supporters of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Hirilandhoo, Thaa Atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih expressed confidence that the upcoming presidential election would see a coalition between the MDP, Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), and Jumhooree Party (JP). President Solih emphasized that a coalition is necessary to secure a win in the election and that those who had previously opposed the idea of a coalition were now discussing the possibility with other parties.
President Solih also mentioned that he had extended invitations to several political parties to form a coalition for the upcoming election, emphasizing that no party can win the election in one round without a coalition. He expressed hope that the current coalition would work in the best interest of the public, and he remained optimistic that MRM and JP would form a coalition with MDP.
It is important to note that MDP has given President Solih the authority to form a coalition for the upcoming election, and he has invited various political parties to join, including MRM and JP. Thus far, the Adhaalath Party (AP) and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) have decided to form a coalition with MDP.
It is worth mentioning that MDP came to power in 2018 with a broad coalition that consisted of MRM, JP, and AP. With the upcoming presidential election, President Solih hopes to continue the trend of a unified coalition, which he believes is the formula for success.
