President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has left for the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at its 76th session.
President Solih, First Lady Fazna Ahmed, and a team of high-level state officials left for the seven-day visit to New York on Saturday.
On Tuesday, the president is scheduled to deliver his address to the UNGA’s 76th session. This would be his second appearance at the UNGA, following his speech in 2019.
During his visit, he will also hold many bilateral and multilateral meetings with state and government officials.
Solih’s UNGA visit comes only a week after Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid was sworn in as President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), making him the first Maldivian to occupy the role.
