President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih tonight lifted the state of public health emergency declared two years ago in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
President Solih noted in his address to the nation tonight that the decision to lift the public health emergency was decided after conferring with health experts. Although the measures were repealed, the president advised people to continue good health practices.
The president also indicated that, while the public health emergency has been lifted, the COVID-19 situation would be closely watched and required steps will be implemented as needed.
Moreover, he stated the Ministry of Health will establish a national action plan to combat COVID-19 in the near future.
The state of public health emergency was initially announced two years ago, on March 12, 2020, by then-Health Minister Abdulla Ameen.
