President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has opened the Joint Interagency Operations Center (JIOC), a new center set up to combat terror threats.
On Tuesday, the military headquarters, Bandaara Koshi, held a ceremony to formally inaugurate the new counter-terror operations centre.
Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi, Chief of the Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal, and other senior government officials attended the ceremony.
The JIOC will function as the primary operational center, connecting all state institutions in the event of a national security threat, according to the government.
The counter-terror operations center’s mission is to devise strategies to counter harmful threats and to carry out associated actions.
President Solih’s “zero tolerance’” stance on terrorism and violent extremism, according to the government, led to the creation of the center.
