President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated a new powerhouse in Utheemu, Haa Alifu Atoll, after 24 years. The inauguration ceremony was held in front of the new powerhouse, attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, senior government officials, and the leaders of Utheemu.
At the ceremony, Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited Ahmed Saeed Mohamed said the new powerhouse shows that it was the current administration that had listened to the concerns of the residents of Utheemu. He said electricity issues and power outages were prevalent throughout the Maldives when President Solih took office and that he has taken initiative in improving the electricity networks in the islands. He added that he will always be reminded of the close relationship the president has with the people.
After the inauguration ceremony, President Solih toured the new powerhouse and the office building and inquired about the planned work. The old powerhouse in Utheemu was constructed over 24 years ago and was located in a residential area. The new powerhouse was built away from the community and has a capacity of 1MW and is designed to maintain four generator sets of 600KW each.
Furthermore, President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed also inaugurated the Utheemu Bandaarainge Ruh Dhandu, a coconut palm plantation adjacent to the Utheemu Palace. They were joined in planting the trees by the dignitaries attending the National Day celebrations.
