President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has directed that all government employees, including those working with government agencies and companies, be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
In a directive issued by the President’s Office, he stated that immunization is the best preventive measure against COVID-19 for the entire community.
The directive, which referred to the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) August 2 circular urging all government personnel to get vaccinated against COVID-19, stated that all government personnel who had not yet received the vaccine must complete the first dose by August 15, and the second dose after the required length of time.
Furthermore, employees who have been recommended against vaccination by a Maldives-registered medical doctor due to pre-existing medical issues are also encouraged to get immunized as soon as their health permits.
In addition, the president directed state administrators and top management to ensure that all personnel receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination. His instruction comes on the heels of the launch of a mass vaccination campaign aimed at fully vaccinating 90% of the eligible population by the end of August.
According to the most recent official data, more than 70% of the eligible population has received the COVID-19 vaccine, while 27% remains unvaccinated.
