President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will convincingly win the 2023 election, and that he does not see any other party winning majority votes.
President Solih made the remarks at the closing stages of final session of the MDP Congress which has been ongoing since Friday. He added that despite the tension among leadership, the Congress has been a success and MDP remains an exemplary political party.
Moreover, the President urged that MDP must work together to win against opposing political candidates in the 2023 presidential elections. He further added that MDP will decide on a presidential candidate as per MDP’s regulations. The President called to fully support any presidential candidate that represents MDP and that the party will always be exemplary in its beliefs and policies despite differences within the party.
Before closing his remarks, the President added that MDP must prepare for the elections and begin campaign work together with the party committees and members and he does not believe any other party is going to win majority votes.
