President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the law repealing the Maldives Transport Authority Act on Monday.
With the enactment of the law, all workers employed by the Maldives Transport Authority would be moved to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
Furthermore, the Transport Authority’s assets, as well as all rights and duties placed on it by law and any agreements, will now be transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The government proposed the bill to disband the Transport Authority, arguing that its functions overlapped with those of the Transport Ministry, which was approved by the People’s Majlis on November 29.
President Solih has previously said that the dissolution of the Transport Authority and subsequent adjustments to the structure of the transport ministry will increase efficiency.
