President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has secured the MDP ticket for Presidential Elections 2023 by a landslide win against Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed.
The voting for MDP’s primary commenced at 0900hrs on Saturday morning and a majority of ballot boxes have been counted.
As per the current ballot count, President Solih has secured 65% of votes against Nasheed, who has secured just 35% of votes.
Although a few ballot boxes remain yet to be counted, the election results are not expected to change drastically.
President Solih’s cabinet, parliament members, and his supporters have announced and congratulated him on the win while Speaker Nasheed claims voter fraud.
