President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged Maldivian athletes competing in international competitions to work hard to bring success and a good name to their country. He made the remark during a meeting held at the President’s Office with the Maldivian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games and Islamic Solidarity Games 2022.
Speaking to the athletes, President Solih noted that only a few people get the prestigious opportunity of representing their nation in international arenas and said that it is an honour to represent their country in sports events internationally. The president added that the government was working to provide the necessary training facilities and tools required to succeed in the global arena. In this regard, he said that the government has worked hard over the last four years to develop sports in the Maldives. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to finding opportunities for athletes without making distinctions based on the athlete’s chosen sport.
