The Restaurant Association of Maldives (RAM) has announced that they are planning to go on strike due to the negative impact HPA guidelines are having on cafe/restaurant businesses.
Speaking at a press conference today, founding member of RAM, Nuzair Ali expressed his concerns regarding the current HPA restrictions having a negative impact on cafe/restaurant businesses. He said many businesses are barely staying afloat.
HPA announced tighter restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Greater Male’ area which includes banning dine-in services in cafes and restaurants after 8PM. However, take-away and delivery services are allowed until 10:30PM.
Nuzair further added that the government is refusing to take their concerns seriously and a solution has not been reached, despite several discussions with the President himself and HPA.
The strike will continue until a solution has been reached, though RAM did not specify when the strike will start.
