Ministry of Finance and Treasury on Wednesday released a circular, instructing to disburse Ramadan allowance by March 28th.
The circular stated that each Muslim employee will receive MVR 3,000 as a Ramadan allowance. Employees working multiple jobs will receive the allowance from their main place of employment.
Moreover, if an employee resigns before one-third of Ramadan month is over, the employers must pay the remaining portion of the allowance. Meanwhile, new hires within Ramadan month will be entitled to the allowance within seven days of employment.
Furthermore, employees on paid leave or non-paid leave will not be eligible for the allowance and should they return to work during Ramadan, they are eligible for the allowance on a pro rata basis.
