A 58-year-old Maldivian female’s remand has been extended to 14 days after she was arrested in Cochin, India in connection to a drug trafficking case.
The Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) accuses Aminath Rasheeda of attempting to smuggle 3.9 KG of opium from India to the Maldives on 11 December 2021. The drugs had allegedly been hidden in boxes of cargo that had been addressed to herself.
Moreover, two Maldivian men were arrested in Kerala, accused of being behind the smuggling operation, however, they claimed that they had been falsely accused and since been set free by NBC.
Aminath Rasheeda was arrested at the Cochin International Airport this Tuesday. She was presented to India’s Magistrate Court and remanded for 3 days. However, upon expiry of the initial remand period, her remand has now been extended to an additional 14 days.
