Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic psychological thriller, Vertigo, which may be remade with a modern twist. The new adaptation is set to feature Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role, and the actor will also be producing the movie through his production company, Team Downey. Joining him as producers are John Davis and John Fox from Davis Entertainment.
Vertigo was originally released in 1958 and is widely regarded as one of Hitchcock’s greatest works. The film tells the story of a retired police detective who becomes obsessed with a woman he is supposed to be protecting. The movie received mixed reviews at the time of its release, but has since gained a cult following and is often cited as a masterpiece of the psychological thriller genre.
There is no word yet on who will be directing the new version of Vertigo, but with such a strong production team and a talented lead actor on board, it’s sure to be a highly anticipated release. Downey Jr. has a long history of playing complex, troubled characters, so it will be interesting to see how he approaches the role made famous by Jimmy Stewart.
Fans of the original film may have mixed feelings about a remake, but with modern technology and a new perspective, there is potential for this version of Vertigo to captivate audiences just as much as the original did over 60 years ago.
