Parliamentarian Rozaina Adam has been elected as the president of the women’s wing of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). She won the seat with 65% of the votes against Shafaath Ahmed, who received 35%.
Parliamentarian Rozaina campaigned for the MDP women’s wing election alongside Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, who won the seat of MDP chairperson. During the campaign, they visited all inhabited islands to make their pledges known to their supporters.
The women’s wing is a branch of MDP that is tasked to increase the membership of women and rally female members for party activities, as well as increasing the involvement of women in social and economic activities and in decision-making roles. The women’s wing is also involved in campaigning for female members representing MDP in various elections.
