In a recent statement, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has stressed the importance of accepting scientific facts, specifically concerning sea level rise. This comes in response to claims made by President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who has raised doubts about the phenomenon.
Maumoon shared satellite data on ‘X’ to illustrate the changes in sea levels over the past three decades. He pointed out that “Satellite data shows that sea levels have risen 3.4 millimeters in the past 30 years.”
“Global warming is causing sea level rise,” Maumoon reiterated, emphasizing the scientific consensus on this issue. He further emphasized that understanding and acknowledging these facts are essential for addressing climate change and its consequences.
