Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that seaplanes are no longer permitted to fly over Hulhumale.
According to MACL’s communications manager, with this move brought about in accordance with the company’s master plan, seaplanes have ceased flying above Hulhumale.
As a result, beginning this month, seaplanes will take a different route and land at Hulhumale’s east lagoon.
Several Hulhumale residents have complained about the loud noise created by the seaplanes as they fly from north of Hulhumale to Hulhule.
The seaplane station at Velana Airport has four water runways, making it one of the busiest in the world. The water runways are now utilized by three seaplane operators: TMA, Maldivian, and Manta Air.
