The Maldives Police Services, the Maldives Correctional Services, and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) conducted a joint counterterrorism operation in prisons on Saturday.
The Maldives Correctional Service acknowledged that the operation is connected to the May IED attack on Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
The operation, which began at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, is being carried out in Male’ Prison and Maafushi Prison.
The IED explosion which went off around 20:20 on 6th May leaving Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and three others injured. The suspects arrested in connection with the attack are Ahmed Adhuham, Mujaaz Ahmed, Thahmeen Ahmed, and most recently Ahmed Fathih. Terrorism charges have been brought upon against all three.
