Seven people have been arrested as part of a joint anti-terrorism operation by Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in Addu City.
According to a Police media official, Maldives Police Service and MNDF are currently conducting an anti-terrorism operation in Addu City and seven people have been arrested so far with links to terrorism. However, the details of the operation have not been disclosed.
The operation is being conducted in the wake of the May 6th bomb attack on former President and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who was severely injured along with few others. The IED was detonated via a remote near the residence of Speaker Nasheed around 8:20 PM on 6th May 2021.
Three suspects have been arrested so far in relation to the attack, all of whom so far have denied the charges against them. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that those behind the attack will be brought to justice.
