The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) issued a three-day weather warning on Thursday, expecting severe winds and rough seas over the Maldives for the next three days.
The tropical depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, which is generating severe weather across the area, is likely to travel north-westwards and pass the Indian coast by Thursday evening, according to the Met Office.
The Met Office said the tropical depression will contribute to severe gusts and dangerous waves during the next three days.
The country’s meteorological bureau predicts average wind speeds of 17-27 miles per hour in the central atolls and 15-25 miles per hour elsewhere.
Authorities have advised mariners to remain cautious and to take all required safety precautions when at sea.
