The Economic Ministry, after considering the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) advice, announced that cafes, restaurants, and shops in the Greater Male’ area will be allowed to open until 9PM for the next 6 days.
The Economic Ministry stated that shops are to be open from 8AM to 9PM and delivery services can be resumed by obtaining permits from the Maldives Police Service as before, until 12AM.
Moreover, operational hours for cafes and restaurants are from 5:30PM to 9PM. Delivery services can be carried out with a permit from Maldives Police Service until 3AM.
Furthermore, gyms, salons, and cinemas are set to be closed during the period.
The new guideline comes after HPA announced more restrictive measures, including curfew from 9PM to 4AM, to control the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. More than 700 cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours alone, and cases have been rising consistently over the past two weeks at an alarming rate.
