During the International Women’s Day sitting, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed highlighted the importance of increasing the participation of women in the Maldivian Parliament.
He stated that political parties should take the initiative to propose laws that would boost the representation of women in the Parliament. The Speaker emphasized that it is the responsibility of all lawmakers to support the initiative and work towards gender equality in the Parliament.
The Maldivian Parliament comprises 87 parliamentarians, including four women: Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla, and parliamentarians Rozaina Adam, Jeehan Mahmood, and Hisaan Hussain.
