People’s Majlis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has proposed an emergency sitting while parliament is in recess.
According to a Maldivian Democratic Party politician, Nasheed requested an emergency meeting while the parliament was in recess in a WhatsApp group of MDP legislators.
Nasheed, according to the MDP lawmaker, submitted the request based on facts disclosed by officials on Saturday regarding the May 6 bombing.
MDP Leader Nasheed also intends to submit a motion to the MDP National Congress calling for the declaration of a state of emergency to allow police to apprehend terrorists, according to reports.
According to the rules of the parliament, a parliamentary session can only be convened while the house is in recess with the signatures of a sufficient number of MPs.
