Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed will seek additional treatment in the United Kingdom after nearly two months in the Bundeswehr Academic Hospital Berlin in Germany following the May 6 bombing, according to his family.
On May 6, around 20:20, an IED exploded, injuring Speaker Nasheed and three people. Nasheed then spent over 16 hours in ADK Hospital undergoing various surgeries before departing to Germany for further treatment on May 13.
Nasheed’s family stated his condition is gradually improving, but on the recommendation of doctors at the German hospital, he will go to the UK today to seek further treatment.
Speaker Nasheed resumed his formal duties while in Germany, meeting with the President of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Schäuble. He had also taken part in an online event to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Several senior officials from the security forces and relevant authorities have been summoned to the parliamentary probe being undertaken by the National Security Forces Committee. The inquiry report is scheduled to be released by the end of next week.
