Sri Lankan conglomerate Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) has won the project to provide, deploy and maintain elevators, escalators and moving walks at Velana International Airport.
DIMO will execute this project in collaboration with mobility solutions provider TK Elevator who provided assistance during the pre-sale, tendering and implementation phases.
The development project at VIA is one of the ‘biggest mobility-related projects’ in the Maldives and among the few projects covering all three types of transportation methods; elevators, escalators and moving walks.
DIMO stated that the strong project reference base in the space of ‘Building Services’ and the technical expertise of DIMO, supported by the market leader status of TK Elevator Company for mobility-related solutions in airport projects worldwide, were significant plus points for DIMO to secure this large-scale project.
As part of the project, the airport will receive 23 elevators, 14 escalators and 4 horizontal moving walks from DIMO.
VIA is set to go under substantial upgrade over the next few years to accommodate the rising demand of tourists to Maldives.
