Srilankan Airlines is set to restart scheduled flights to Gan International Airport very soon, according to the Srilankan Airlines’ Maldives Representative, Inner Maldives.
Speaking at the ceremony held today at Addu City to hand over commercial lands allocated for tourism development to the bid winners, Inner Maldives’ CEO Mohamed Firag said the flights from Sirlanka to Gan will commence soon.
He also added that discussions are ongoing with several other airlines from different countries to boost tourism in the southern region of the Maldives.
Firag further added that there are lots of challenges and obstacles to plan flights to Gan International Airport and that it is not an easy process. However, he plans to make sure they cater to atleast 12,000 tourist beds in the region by establishing a connectivity to different countries.
Srilankan first started flying to Gan International Airport back in 2016, however the flights have been halted since the pandemic.
