Sun Siyam Media (SS Media) launched a new local television channel, SSTV, on Wednesday evening, intensifying competition in the Maldives’ media landscape. The launch comes amidst SS Net’s rivalry with Medianet, the country’s leading cable TV provider.
SSTV, which will be live from 9:00 am to 12:30 am, will deliver content for all ages, including news in both the Dhivehi and English languages. The channel will also air a number of engaging and enthralling programs.
SS Media’s Chief Content Officer, Mohamed Zaheen, stated that half of the channel’s content is outsourced to third parties, with a priority allocated to creators based on islands. The goal is to facilitate opportunities for other content creators and television producers.
SS Media, which manages Sun Online, Safuha, and Maldive Islands, also introduced its newly launched cable TV service, SSNET. The launch of SSTV positions SS Media to compete with Medianet, its rival in the local broadcasting industry.
