Sun Siyam’s SS Network (SSNET) has commenced cable TV service in over 90 islands in the Maldives.
SSNET received its broadcasting license to provide cable TV services across the nation last December. Existing DhiraaguTV customers can switch to SSNET for free.
Following the launch of SSNET, their COO Mohamed Asif (Mondhu) stated that the service is being provided over Dhiraagu’s modern IPTV and OTT platform. He further highlighted that DhiraaguTV customers who are yet to switch to SSNET can easily still do so.
He also highlighted that there may be minor issues while the service is being launched, though any issues will be fixed over the next two days which will assure smooth operations.
SSNET had also signed with Dhiraagu to provide SSNET across the nation using their IPTV and OTT platforms.
Dhiraagu CEO Ismail Rasheed signed the agreement on behalf of the telecom giant, while Managing Director of SSNET, Zulaikha Manik signed on behalf of the company.
Dhiraagu TV’s license renewal was controversially rejected by Broadcom stating that the new rebroadcasting regulation only permits 100% locally owned companies to rebroadcast in the Maldives. Dhiraagu’s majority shares are owned by a Kuwaiti company.
