The government’s declaration of a state of public health emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been extended once again.
The previously announced public health emergency ended yesterday, and the government extended it until December 30.
Health Minister Ahmed Naseem highlighted in the statement announcing the latest extension to the state of public health emergency that the Health Protection Agency had recommended that the public health emergency be extended since the possibility of a severe countrywide outbreak remained.
The Maldives has registered 107 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 1,613. The country has also continued vaccination efforts, with 395,672 people receiving the first dosage and 363,580 being fully vaccinated. In addition, 10,331 individuals have received a booster shot.
