State Trading Organization (STO) has opened an Agricenter dedicated to local farmers’ produce to be wholesale and retail.
STO said farmers can weigh their produce at the center and receive payment for their produce almost immediately. Moreover, STO will then pack the produce while it’s fresh and sell it on the local market.
STO’s Agricenter will buy 15 types of locally farmed fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, lettuce, banana, and butternut, etc.
STO has also set a minimum price for the produce after discussions with local farmers. STO said it aims to provide a reasonable and fair price to farmers.
Speaking at the ceremony to open the Agricenter, STO’s Managing Director Husen Amr said this is a golden opportunity for farmers. The opening of Agricenter will solve the problem of farmers receiving delayed payments from other sources for their produce. He also said farmers can supply their produce to resorts via STO’s Agricenter in the near future.
Moreover, this will also help to regulate the price of fruits and vegetables in the local market as STO will be supplying wholesale, he added.
