President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that the student loan repayments have been delayed until the end of this year.
President Solih stated today at a press conference that the loan repayments have been postponed following discussions with the Ministries of Higher Education and Finance.
Last year, the Ministry of Higher Education postponed loan payments due to the financial effects of the COVID-19 outbreak. The government initially delayed student loan payments for six months in March 2020, but it was subsequently extended until end of 2020.
The Higher Education Ministry has allocated 770 spots for student loans in 2021, the most slots ever allocated by the Ministry. According to Higher Education Minister Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, there are 471 slots for current students and 299 slots for new students.
