The Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has announced that the party’s leader, Member of Parliament, Ahmed Siyam (Sun Siyam) will contest in the upcoming presidential election in 2023.
An anonymous senior MDA official stated to a local news outlet that the party would be conducting various activities in different parts of the country to increase its party membership. He also said MDA aims to increase its membership to 10,000 before its leader Siyam contests in the presidential election. According to the Election Commission’s website, the MDA currently has 6,769 members.
Siyam is one the most influential personalities in the tourism sector of the Maldives. Siyam has over 20 years of experience in politics and is currently serving as an MP of Meedhoo Constituency.
