Seven suspects arrested in an anti-terrorism operation in Addu City were remanded in custody today.
According to local media reports, the suspects were apprehended on suspicion of having ties to the international terrorist organization ISIS.
Maldives Police Service stated that three of them were remanded for 15 days, while the other four were remanded for seven days.
Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) conducted an anti-terrorism operation in Addu City on Saturday and seven people were arrested with links to terrorism. However, the details of the operation were not disclosed.
The operation was conducted in the wake of the May 6th bomb attack on former President and Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who was severely injured along with few others. The IED was detonated via a remote near the residence of Speaker Nasheed around 8:20 PM on 6th May 2021.
Three suspects have been arrested so far in relation to the attack, all of whom so far have denied the charges against them. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that those behind the attack will be brought to justice.
