Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced increased fares for taxi services in the Greater Male’ Region due to the rise in fuel prices.
The ministry announced the fare for trips within Male’ or Hulhumale’ has been increased from MVR 25 to MVR 30. Meanwhile, the maximum price for a trip between Male’ and Hulhumale’ Phase I has been increased from MVR 75 to MVR 85. The maximum price of a trip between Male’ and Hulhumale’ Phase II has been allocated as MVR 100.
Furthermore, the transport ministry announced the fare for trips between Male’ and Hulhule’ has been increased from MVR 60 to MVR 70. The fare for trips between Hulhumale’ Phase I and Hulhule’ has been set as MVR 80, and the fare for trips between Hulhumale’ Phase II and Hulhule’ has been set as MVR 85. Meanwhile, a trip between Hulhumale’ Phase I and II will cost MVR 40.
The new taxi fares were announced at a time taxi drivers have been demanding a change in the allocated prices. The transport ministry held discussions with taxi drivers before announcing the new fares.
