The Government of Maldives has commenced discussions with taxi drivers to revise the prices of taxi fares.
The government started talks with taxi drivers at a time when drivers are demanding changes in taxi fares due to the change in fuel prices in the market. These discussions are likely to lead to some change in the current fares for taxi fares. Taxi drivers are concerned about the lack of the possibility of changing the prices of taxis, although the prices of some other transport services have changed as fuel prices are rising in the market.
Earlier this year, several taxi drivers protested against the set taxi fares for the Greater Male’ Region when the fuel prices started rising rapidly due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
