Thai AirAsia has restarted flights to the Maldives after a two-year hiatus.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) expressed satisfaction with the rising number of airlines operating to the Maldives from Southeast Asia in a tweet announcing the restart of Thai AirAsia flights.
Following the decision to restart flights between the Maldives and Thailand, a virtual event was organized in December, during which the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) briefed attendees on the travel precautions adopted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, information on travel connections and ticket deals were sent throughout the virtual event.
Following Thailand’s relaxation of travel restrictions, a huge number of tourists are expected to visit the Maldives. The number of visitors from Southeast Asia visiting the Maldives has surged in recent years.
The Maldives received around 87,636 tourists from Southeast Asia in 2019, and with the addition of new flights from the area to the Maldives, the number of tourist arrivals is projected to rise.
