In a recent press conference, The Democrats announced their intention to play a more integral role in the incoming administration of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Interim Chairperson Hassan Latheef conveyed that the party’s involvement will extend beyond advisory functions, with party members set to take on various positions within the new government.
Chairperson Latheef emphasized that The Democrats are committed to actively participating in the governance of the Maldives, and their members will be appointed to key positions to directly contribute to the government’s operations.
The Office of the President-elect echoed this commitment to inclusivity, affirming that it has no plans to exclude capable individuals based on their political affiliations. Instead, the focus will remain on competence and responsibility, ensuring that individuals, regardless of their party memberships, continue to serve in the government.
During the press conference, Chairperson Latheef also announced that The Democrats will hold primary elections for individuals interested in running for the position of Mayor of Male’ City on the party ticket. Furthermore, the party plans to establish branches to strengthen its organizational structure, with details on branch formation expected to be provided to members in the near future.
