The Maldivian government has disbursed MVR 284.1 million as Income Support Allowance as a monetary help to individuals whose employment have been influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic to meet their fundamental financial requirements.
As per the Finance Ministry, it disbursed Income Support Allowance to 18,199 individuals by February 11.
The MVR 5,000 Income Support Allowance is disbursed through National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
The individuals who have been laid off or put on no-pay leave or lost their main source of income will get the full MVR 5,000, while the individuals who have been subject to pay cuts of lower than MVR 5,000, will get the remaining difference.
While just those whose pay were affected from March onwards were at first qualified for the Income Support Allowance, the rules for qualification for the allowance was subsequently extended to permit individuals whose pay have been influenced because of the COVID-19 pandemic as far back as December 2019, rather than March 2020.
