The three main individuals arrested over the recent leak of same-sex videos have been released from Maldives Police Service’s custody.
The three individuals which include prominent lawyer Nazim Abdul Sattar, former MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel), and Officer at the Drug Enforcement Department of Police, Abdulrahman Rafeeu have now been released from Police custody after their remands expired for the second time.
According to Police, they were released after the unlawful sexual activity charges against them were forwarded to Prosecutors General Office (PGO) to decide whether or not to move forward with the charges. However, their passports are still being withheld until further notice.
Videos and photos of many high-profile individuals engaging in sexual relations with a Bangladeshi named MD Alamgir were leaked on social media in the past month. Many suspensions and terminations have also followed after the leaks.
