The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has penalized K. Thulusdhoo Council for dumping waste into the ocean.
EPA announced tonight that it has handed a MVR 45,000 fine to Thulusdhoo Council for violating waste management regulation 2013/R-58 by dumping food waste into the ocean. Thulusdhoo Council is required to pay the fine within 30 days.
Moreover, EPA requested Thulusdhoo Council to formulate a waste management plan and submit it to EPA within 30 days or face further action.
EPA has cautioned island councils and resorts to adhere to waste management regulations or face hefty fines.
