Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim has stated that passengers will soon be able to use their smartphones and Bank of Maldives (BML) cards to purchase tickets for its public transport services by the end of the year.
Speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate Raaje Transport Link (RTL) bus service in Hulhumale’ Phase II, CEO Adam Azim detailed the efforts of MTCC to further develop its public transport services with the use of the latest technologies. As such, he said that passengers will soon be able to use their smartphones and BML cards or Mastercard to make transit-related payments.
Furthermore, CEO Azim said that MTCC is working to begin mini-bus services in the Greater Male’ Region in July to provide a permanent solution to the issue of traffic congestion. He also said that the company will soon be using new buses for its transport services in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and Laamu Atoll.
MTCC added 15 new buses to its fleet by launching its bus services in Hulhumale’ Phase II.
