The attractive incentive packages given to partner airlines contributed considerably to an increase in visitor arrivals to the Maldives in 2021, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said.
Speaking during the event to welcome the first visitor of 2022, MACL Acting In-Charge Ibrahim Thoha emphasized the considerable success made in increasing tourist arrivals in 2021, exceeding the year’s target of 1.3 million tourists
He stated that the MACL, as a major contributor to the aviation and tourism industries, played a critical role in the expansion of tourism by offering attractive incentive packages to partner airlines, adding that the strong safety standards of Velana International Airport (VIA) aided the airport in obtaining the ACI Health Accreditation Certificate as the Asia Pacific’s second airport.
Furthermore, Thoha stated that all of these efforts have been rewarded by an increase in the number of passengers flying each month, which is nearing pre-COVID-19 levels.
He also stressed that the Maldives’ future looks bright, and he extended appreciation to all stakeholders who have contributed to the Maldives’ popularity as a tourist destination.
